The Soaring 2006 Southwestern Regional Conference of the National Pan-Hellenic Council, Inc. was held in the great state of Louisiana, southeast of the Mississippi River in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. The 22nd conference was hosted by The Greater Baton Rouge Pan-Hellenic Council, Inc. (GBRNPHC) on the campuses of two local sister institutions, Louisiana State University and A&M College and Southern University and A&M College . Several activities included: a Thursday night reception hosted by the GBRNPHC at the African American Cultural Center; on Friday there were several workshops packed with information for participants to take back to their councils throughout the region. The collegians in attendance were inspired by luncheon speaker Greek Atty. Dwayne Murray, Senior Grand Vice Polemarch for Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc., as he talked about the importance of a good education and serving humanity to its fullest. Later in the evening, the GBRNPHC held a community-wide public forum where various local, state, region and national community leaders discussed the importance of Greek organizations assisting and playing a vital role in keeping communities healthier, engaged, educated and united.

On Saturday morning, the region held its Order of Omega Honor Fraternity induction ceremony where fifteen of our very own were inducted. To highlight the morning session, College President, Dr. Walter Kimbrough of Philander-Smith Collge, talked about "Black Greeks 101." Prior to the conclusion of the business meeting, the election results were announced. Officers elected were: Regional Director, Greek Dr. Adell Brown; 1st Vice Regional Director, Greek Ardren Jones; 2nd Vice Regional Director, Greek Tiffany Turner; 3rd Regional Director, James Hester; Regional Secretary, Greek Dr. Felice Sanders; and Regional Treasurer, Greek Jermaine Watson.

At the Black & White Banquet, all in attendance were treated with words of encouragement and the spirit of unity as closing banquet speaker, Greek Cynthia Butler-McIntyre, 1st International Vice President for Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. addressed conference participants as she helped Immediate Past Regional Director, Candice Wicks, closed out the conference. A brief speech followed as new Southwestern Regional (either Southwest Regional or Southwestern Region's) Director Greek Dr. Adell Brown, provided the crowd of about 200 persons with words of unity, scholarship and service as the theme for the new Southwest Region of the National Pan-Hellenic Council, Inc.
